Prior to founding Bleich & Burnett,
Joe Bleich was elected and served
as an Associate Justice of the
Louisiana Supreme Court for District
4 (Northeast Louisiana), from
which he retired in 1997 after
more than twenty years of public
service.
Before serving on the Supreme
Court, Joe (still referred to
as “Judge” by friends
and colleagues) served as First
Assistant District Attorney for
the 3rd Judicial District. He
was later elected as State Representative
for the 12th Representative District
in 1979. After spending three
years in the legislature and
nearly fifteen years in the judiciary,
Judge Bleich has also devoted
more than seventeen years to
private practice.
In addition to drafting legislation
and rendering decisions, Judge
Bleich also served the Louisiana
State Law Institute as a member
of the Evidence Advisory Committee,
thus being directly involved
with assisting in preparing the
Louisiana Code of Evidence. Other
extra-legislative committees
to which Judge Bleich provided
service were the Governor’s
Drug Enforcement Task Force and
the Governor’s Policy Task
Force on Prison Overcrowding.
