Wade Burnett’s
unique legal career began with
his efforts on behalf of a family
member. In Texas v.
Mowbray, Mr. Burnett’s mother was
wrongfully convicted and sentenced
to life in prison when Mr. Burnett
was in high school. During college
and in law school, and after
numerous failed appeals, Mr.
Burnett reviewed the entire case
and developed the legal and evidentiary
arguments that ultimately led
to a reversal of the conviction.
He raised the funds necessary
for the entire legal effort and
coordinated his mother’s
defense at a second, nationally-televised
trial, which resulted in an acquittal
and the reuniting of his family.
Even while working
on his mother’s case during
law school, Mr. Burnett was awarded
the CALI Excellence for the Future
Award for Excellent Achievement
in the Study of Torts, as well
as the Corpus Juris Secundum
Award for Scholastic Excellence
in Torts. Upon graduation, Mr.
Burnett accepted a judicial clerkship
with the Hon. Charles R. Scott,
III in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Prior to joining Bleich & Burnett,
Mr. Burnett served as litigation
associate to Edwin G. Preis at
the maritime firm of Preis, Kraft & Roy.
Each of these prior appointments,
and Mr. Burnett’s current
practice, are focused on civil
litigation.
